چکیده

This paper analyses industrial PVC sheets structural integrity assessment widely used for different ranges of applications. We investigated combined approaches focused on fracture toughness to predict mechanical behavior against failure. ran a series tests tensile and single-edge notched samples at various crosshead speeds test machine. sheets' stress intensity factors were evaluated using both theoretical experimental model crack growth. In the procedure, we digital image correlation (DIC) method. also developed semi-empirical length over time. Furthermore, proposed that growth rate factor satisfactorily correlated all could be represented power-law model. pre-cracked specimens, results showed appears influenced by speed.

Digital Image Correlation and the Contributions of Stress-Strain Measurements towards Failure Analysis

Failure mechanisms contributed by stress or material fatigue have been witnessed in several industrial as well as at R&D applications in various forms. Metallurgical studies for failure analysis have ensured the contributions of residual stress in several cases. The most important and common consideration in all these cases has been the material. Definitely, there may be other contributing fact...

Static Laboratory Earthquake Measurements with the Digital Image Correlation Method

Mapping full-field displacement and strain changes on the Earth’s surface following an earthquake is of paramount importance to enhance our understanding of earthquakemechanics. Currently, aerial and satellite images taken preand postearthquake can be processed with sub-pixel correlation algorithms to infer the co-seismic ground deformations (e.g., [1, 2]). However, the interpretation of this d...

On the Use of Acoustic Emission and Digital Image Correlation for Welded Joints Damage Characterization

A series of tests have been conducted to investigate fatigue damage characterization in corroded welded steel plates using structural health monitoring (SHM) techniques. Acoustic Emission (AE) is a non-destructive testing (NDT) technique with potential applications for locating and monitoring fatigue cracks in service. In the present work, AE is implemented to characterize damage during crack e...

Experimental PVC Material Challenge in Subjects with Occupational PVC Exposure

BACKGROUND Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) materials have been linked to asthma in several epidemiologic studies, but the possible causal factors remain unknown. PARTICIPANTS We challenged 10 subjects experimentally to degraded PVC products under controlled conditions. All of the subjects had previously experienced respiratory symptoms suspected to be caused by this kind of exposure in their work pl...
